“See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God!  Yet that is what we are.  Dearly beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall later be has not yet come to light.  We know that when it comes to light we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is”  (1 John 3:1-2).

On Easter Sunday 2003, Andy Rooney (60 Minutes) had this to say about celibacy:  “The pledge of celibacy demanded of priests assumes that sexual desire can be suppressed by resolve. The fact is, sex isn’t something a person can decide not to have or promise not to have and then never have it. They might as well have ordered church bells not to ring when struck.”

My response to Andy is . . . “Andy Rooney says ‘sex isn’t something a person can decide not to have or promise not to have . . .’  I feel sorry for all those married men and women out there whose spouses have become incapable of fulfilling this part of their marriage covenant.  Apparently, if we are to believe Andy, none can decide to remain faithful to his or her spouse.”
